An Outline of the Discussion
This discussion is hard to outline/bullet-point. Here are some of the highlights.
- Yom Kippur is a fall feast, also known as the Day of Atonement.
- The Levitical feasts fall into a pattern that plays out in the prophetic. They had a set purpose when given, but also end up having prophetic significance.
- The feasts are divided into Spring feasts and Fall feasts. The Spring feasts are: Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits. There's also Pentacost, seven weeks after Passover. The Fall feasts are: Trumpets, Yom Kippur, and Tabernacles (aka Booths.) An eighth feast is Hanukkah (Feast of Dedication), not a Levitical feast, but mentioned in John and observed by Jesus.
- The New Testament reveals that the feasts have prophetic significance. The Spring feasts all occur during “Passover week.” They are fulfilled in Christ's first advent, and present the pattern we use to investigate the future fulfillment of the Fall feasts.
- The Feast of Trumpets falls on the first of the month under the Hebrew lunar calendar, and so it's considered the feast which no one knows the day or the hour it will occur. The Israelites had watchers throughout the land to notify everyone once they saw the new moon heralding the first of the month. This was especially important during inclement weather, when vision of the sky is obscured.
- We must keep in mind that, while the Fall feasts set up a prophetic pattern for the Lord's second coming, His second coming is a singular, yet complex event.
- Yom Kippur is on the 10th of the month, nine days after the Feast of Trumpets.
- Yom Kippur is a day of fasting and mourning.
- The Feast of Tabernacles is an inversion, it's a feast of great rejoicing.
- Ryan believes the even that Yom Kippur becomes the prophetic pattern of occurs at the end of Daniel's 70th week.
