Chris Hohnholz: Discussion Cornucopia 2022

Chris Hohnholz is a law enforcement officer near Reno, Nevada and fellow Christian Podcast Community podcaster. He and Richard Story have a show called Voice of Reason Radio. He returns for another discussion cornucopia episode, where we talk about three different, but related topics from the Christian response to tragedy, being Salt and Light in the world, and the nature of our rights as Christians.

Outline of the Discussion
  • Cultural Reaction to evil (such as school shootings.)
    • Evil people do evil things, and then sit in judgment.
    • The culture wants to dethrone God, then wonders why He allows these horrific acts to happen.
    • God often turns the unrepentant over to their desires as a form of judgment.
    • Curses follow the people doing what's right in their own eyes.
    • People choose evil, so they get evil. The only way to change that is through repentance.
  • What it means to be salt and light.
    • The Light is the Gospel. To be light is to proclaim the Gospel.
    • Also in Light is to live out our Biblical values.
    • Jesus didn't command us to be salt and light, he told us we are salt and light (Matthew 5:13-14)
    • Salt was the primary preservative before the invention of refrigeration.
  • Do/Should Christians have rights?
    • As a reaction to the most recent shooting (which inspired the first topic,) there are people saying we should be laying down all of our rights for the sake of “the vulnerable.”
    • Those advocating such nonsense have no regard for scriptural context.
    • We must consider our ability to defend those who depend on us.
    • We are free to lay down our rights if we so choose, but there is nothing requiring us to do so.
    • Our rights protect us against the abuses of government.
